We all know that parents, after a long three month break is longing for the day they go back to school. YES!!!  Back to school time is here, time where kids are reuniting with friends, learning new skills and telling stories of their summer breaks. Unfortunately, that is not all that comes along with back to school. Often times they bring home unwanted visitors. Every parent knows what I am talking about. The little critters that will attach itself to your child's hair and hitch hike its way into your home. Once at home, these nasty little things double and triple in numbers until "yes" your home is invaded.

Now I am pretty sure by now you know we are talking about lice. And I am betting right now everyone is scratching their heads as well. Don't know why that happens but it does. Any way, I was trying to find a natural way of killing and deterring lice, to ensure our home didn't get the critters. I googled home remedies for lice and found that Tea Tree oil is a natural solution to killing and deterring lice. So I got the opportunity to review tea tree oil and I decided to opt in.

I was tickled pink that the bottle was a  large 4 ounce size and it has a glass dropper. It should last quite some time if used as directed. The smell is not very fragrant and quite strong straight from the bottle, however when diluted it is not nearly as strong. Now we added six drops of Tea Tree oil to our one bottle of shampoo. Then just wash you hair as usual. I read the lice did not like the smell of the oil and it also has a harder time attaching to the hair with the oil present. If you are already infested it suggests washing the hair twice. Recommended time is 7-10 minutes. You can also add to your conditioner six to eight drops per bottle, place on hair, leave on 5 minutes and comb hair.

I tried out the solution just to see how bad the odor was on your hair after washing. Well there was a slight odor of the product, but nothing harsh and when mixed in your conditioner or shampoo at home, you can barely smell it. It did not dry my hair out, nor did it make it oily. It did seem easier to brush and had less tangles. Now as far as knowing whether or not it works with lice, I don't know. But I am going to put this to the test, should the need arise.

This is not the only function of the tea tree oil, it smells like liniment and actually works like it. It has antiseptic properties and can soothe sore muscles. Also helps with sore and tender joints, such as arthritis pain. It does not leave a greasy residue on your skin, but if using full strength it does have a scent for a while.

It also deters ants, place some of the product where ants are traveling and they will not cross that barrier. I am looking forward to researching other uses as I love using natural products instead of harsh chemical ones.
